wrong number etiquette…

on the drive with kenny jones – we discussed the recent rash of wrong numbers…dialed by me.  i seemed to have caught a slight case of dyslexia after filling in on the beat breakfast for two weeks (i chalk it up to sheer exhaustion).  nonetheless my ability to plug in the right digits has been a bit off.

so if you’ve received a wrong number recentlyly – and it happens to be an american bloke on the other end of the line – it’s probably me.  and i apologize.

if my improper dialing has taught me anything  – it’s people don’t like you miss-dialing them.  in fact, they can be out right rude.  for the most part people simply put the phone down on me.  that’s right they hang up without a courteous…

  • sorry, you’ve got the wrong number
  • there’s no one here by that name
  • what number were you trying to reach

what is wrong with you people?!?!  isn’t there a protocol or some sort of etiquette when it comes to calling or receiving a wrong number?  here’s the drive contingent’s take on the matter…

in the utopian world i envision everyone would be kind, courteous and if a wrong number is dialed the conversation would break down like this:

caller:  hi. can i speak with ahmed, please?

kenny:  i”m sorry, there’s nobody here by that name.

caller:  okay.  sorry about that.  i must have dialed the wrong number.

kenny:  no problem.  hope you find who you were looking for

caller:  thanks.  hey, before i you go – what’s your address so i can send you a check for 40,000 dollars?  i’m also giving you the keys to my mercedes-benz slk too for being so kind.

aaaaaaaand scene.

okay, so the last bit may be a bit much – but in my utopian world we all ride unicorns and live in the candy cane forest next to gumdrop mountain…accept for me, i’ll be driving my new merc.

but you get the idea.  couldn’t we all just be a touch more courteous on the phone – who ever happens to be on the other end.  it would make life a tiny bit more tolerable.

catch the drive with kenny jones – weekdays from 4-7pm exclusively on beat-fm 102.5 and online at mybeat.fm.
