drive rewinds, the drive

world’s largest hummus

on the drive with kenny jones -- we discussed the guinness book of world records.  the conversation started with a guy that managed to stuff 16 live madagascan hissing cockroaches into his gob.

ladies & gentlemen -- sean murphy of lansing, michigan…

…our guess is this guy doesn’t date much.  and for the sake of those cockroaches -- i hope he had a breath mint before all that.

then we moved on to a more edible world record.  over the weekend, lebanon managed to prepare a massive plate of hummus weighing over 2 tons.  a world record reaffirming proprietorship over the popular middle eastern dip.

it took some 300 white-uniformed chefs, 2,976 pounds of mashed chickpeas, 106 gallons of lemon juice and 57 pounds of salt to create the dish.  the finished product weighed in at 4,532 pounds.

“lebanon is trying to win a battle by registering this new guinness world record and telling the whole world that hummus is a lebanese product, its part of our traditions,”
~ fady jreissati, vice president of operations
international fairs & promotions group

lebanese businessmen accuse other countries of stealing a host of traditional middle eastern dishes, particularly hummus, and marketing them worldwide.

on the drive we attempted to figure out just where hummus originated from…and of course got sidetracked in search of the best spot to find the delicious dip here in amman…

whoever originally created hummus -- hats off to you.  i love the stuff.  and cannot seem to get enough of it.  so again, lebanon, israel, greece, egypt, who ever…

BRAVO and THANK YOU!
