drive rewinds, the drive

weekend tune-up songs

on the drive with kenny jones – i took some flack recently for not having a weekend tune up song.  i told the kenny jones disciples that everyday is like the weekend on the drive… (insert cricket sounds here)

yeah, right.  the drive contingent didn’t go for that either.  i was told if rob stevens from the beat breakfast plays “i’m so excited” by the pointer sisters, then i need a song to kick start the weekend.

so we went in search of a weekend tune up song for thursdays on the drive.  have a listen to how it came about…

so what can i say – not everyone seemed to get on board with bubba sparxx – ms new-booty.  i can’t figure it out.

i did give it a shot though.  you’ve gotta give me that.  unsatisfied we went on the look out for the perfect weekend tune-up songs.  here’s what we found:

weekend tune-up tracks

  • workin’ for the weekend – loverboy
  • this is how we do it – montel jordan
  • get this party started – pink
  • weekend – hard fi
  • let’s go crazy – prince

i thought the selection was a bit lame myself.  then it hit me – my show starter every thursday is the all time greatest weekend tune up song EVER!

todd rundgren – bang the drum

okay, he’s a bit creepy – but there is not a better “weekend anthem” known to man.  with a chorus like this:

“i don’t wanna work – i just wanna bang on this drum all day”

be sure to tune in to the drive at 4pm sharp to get your sample.

catch the drive with kenny jones – weekdays from 4-7pm exclusively on beat-fm 102.5 or online at mybeat.fm.
