the beat-fm crime blotter:

14:00 – kenny jones enters studio and is offered a delicious cookie by rob stevens.

14:01 – rob stevens claims he baked the said cookies – kenny jones commends rob on his culinary skills.

14:03 – kenny jones devours the remaining 17 cookies in the box.

14:16 – rob stevens exits studio

14:31 – listener phones and asks if rob gave kenny samples of the cookies he had brought in.  cookies were made by his mother-in-law.

14:32 – kenny jones claims on national radio that he has been duped by rob stevens into thinking he has baked cookies.

14:33 – text machine is flooded with listeners claiming to have made the cookies.  wtf?

14:44 – nour enters the studio, notices the empty cookie tin and asks if kenny jones got to taste any of her mother’s cookies?

14:48 – further evidence reveals nour’s mother is in fact the baker of said cookies.

14:49 – kenny jones asks if there is any chance of nour’s mother sending over a pallet of the delicious treats.

14:50 – nour’s answer – no.

if you’ve never had one of the delicious treats – you have no idea what you’re missing.  they’re called ma’amouls.

mamoul-arabic-cookies-kenny-jones-radio

ma’amouls:  small shortbread pastries filled with dates, pistachios or walnuts (or occasionally almonds, figs, or other fillings).

they are popular in palestine, lebanon, syria and other levantine countries. they may be in the shape of balls or of domed or flattened cookies. they can either be decorated by hand or be made in special wooden moulds. many households keep a stock of them all year round, but they are particularly used on religious festivals. muslims eat them at night during ramadan, and arab christians eat them at easter.

all i know is that nour’s mother outta open a pastry shop!
