on the drive with kenny jones – go on the topic of haircuts and school. one of the drive contingent posted on his facebook that he was “off to get a hair cut.” to which i replied, “nooooooooooooooooo!” his rebuttle, “my school is making me.”
that’s right – my school is MAKING me!
does a school have the right to dictate the length of a student’s hair? does the length of one’s hair have anything to do with a their scholastic performance? how long is too long? who’s decides what is an acceptable length? and is long hair linked to a man’s strength? – oops that’s a whole different conversation.
anyway, here’s what the drive contingent had to say about a school MAKING a student cut his hair…

this has never sat well with me because i had to do it when i was in school. i was not a rebellious teen in fact, i was a good kid in high school – but i did have long hair…that is until coach campana made me cut it if i wanted to stay on the football team (american football that is) - so i did.
but i still never thought it was right.
it was painful to see those gorgeous long brown locks fall to the floor. you can’t see it but a single tear just rolled down my cheek. mrs warnke – i still think i owe you 6 bucks for that haircut.
so the questions remain – is it the students prerogative to look like a hoodlum if they so choose? is hairstyle dictator a role that schools really outta be playing or should they just stick to education?

I’d have to say, as a proud owner of a finely quaffed mullet(circa 1989), that the school does have the right. Much like Samson (from the bible dudes), I was able to attribute my “strong” C minus grade point average in HS to my bitchin’ mullett.
