just how scary is paranormal activity?
on the drive with kenny jones – we spoke to one of the drive faithful that said he’d heard of a movie sooooo scary that friends of his that have watched it are having trouble sleeping at night now.
but let’s rewind a bit first…
we first experienced it with the blair witch project (1999), where the horrific story of three film students who disappeared into the woods is cobbled together from their self-recorded video footage.
then, the same shaky-camera technique was used to make faux documentaries about alien invasion (2008′s Cloverfield)
and of course there’s the viral infection (2008′s Quarantine, itself a remake of the 2007 Spanish horror, REC).
i had to look away watching all three of these flicks – not because of the frightening nature of the content – but the shake hand-held camera work was about to make me hurl my popcorn & raisinettes back into the bucket.
anyway…just when you think the novelty is wearing off, along comes paranormal activity.
this low budget scare-fest got the kenny jones disciples talking. here’s what they had to say about the film…
but they must be doing something right – cuz it’s scaring up some serious scratch at the box office. talk about profitability: it was made for US$11,000 and has grossed close to US$100 million already.
bravo oren peli!
he’s the writer director of this creepy masterpiece. it’s nice to see the little guy prevail in hollyweird!
so if you’ve not seen paranormal activity yet – your homework is to go watch it (if you dare) then report back. we’ll find out just how scary this movie really is!
